Electrician Windsor
Licensed electricians working Windsor’s steep streets and pre-war housing. Downstairs conversions, subboards and switchboard upgrades, priced before we start.
What a raised Windsor house needs
Windsor is steep, old and largely raised, so the work here is downstairs conversions more than anything else: new circuits for the second level, a subboard so it is protected on its own, and a main board with the capacity to carry both floors. Smoke alarms and general repairs fill in the rest.

What raising a house does to the wiring
Windsor is steep and it is old, and the two together produce a very particular kind of job. Most of the housing is pre-war timber on stumps, and a large share of it has been raised at some point, which means the work here is nearly always a downstairs conversion: new circuits for a second living area, a subboard so the whole level isn’t running off the original lighting circuit, and a main switchboard with enough capacity to carry both floors. Alongside that, smoke alarm compliance across both levels goes in on the same visit.
The mistake we get called in to fix is the cheap version of that: a downstairs area wired off whatever circuit was closest, no subboard, and a board that trips every time the second fridge and the air conditioner run together. Doing it properly the first time costs more on the day and less over the ten years afterwards. Windsor is one of the suburbs we cover, and it shares a postcode with Wooloowin just up the hill.

Recent jobs, before and after the linings
Every photo here is our own work, not a stock library. Subboards, cable runs and switchboards in the middle of being brought up to scratch. On a conversion the useful photos are the ones taken before anything gets covered up.

Conversion questions we get asked
Almost every Windsor enquiry starts with a downstairs area, so these are the three that come up first.
We’re converting under the house. What does that need electrically?
Its own circuits at minimum, and past a certain size a subboard downstairs so the level is isolated and protected on its own. A legal-height conversion also has to meet the lighting and power outlet requirements in the building code, not just the wiring rules, so the number and placement of points matters, not only that they work.
Can you work with our builder on the conversion?
Yes. We want two visits: rough-in before the linings go on, and fit-off at the end. Give us the program and we’ll book both in around it rather than turning up when the walls are already closed.
Our board trips whenever we run two things at once. Is that a supply problem?
Almost never. It’s usually circuits that were extended rather than added, too much load on one protective device. The fix is splitting the load across new circuits, which often means the board needs more room first. We can tell you which in one visit.
