Why an old board is a problem before it fails
Ceramic rewireable fuses have no residual current protection, which means they do not trip fast enough to protect a person. They were legal when they went in and they are not illegal now, but they are the reason a lot of Brisbane homes still have no safety switch on the lighting circuit.

You want ducted air, an EV charger or a downstairs conversion, and you have been told the board will not carry it. We quote the upgrade and the new circuit together so you get one number, not two.

Yes. Ethan Wilcox holds Queensland Electrical Contractor Licence 1512150, and Jimmy Evans holds Licence 1510523. EWJ Electrical is veteran owned and fully insured, and handles compliance, switchboards, EV chargers and general repairs.
How long does a switchboard upgrade take?
Most domestic boards are a one day job. The power is off for a few hours in the middle of it, and we give you that window before we start so you can plan around the fridge and anyone working from home.
How much does a switchboard upgrade cost in Brisbane?
It depends on the size of the board, how many circuits you are running and whether the meter needs moving. We quote a fixed price once we have looked at it, and that number is what you pay.
Do I need to upgrade if my board still works?
Not necessarily. Plenty of older boards are perfectly safe. The ones we recommend replacing are the ones with rewireable fuses, no safety switch on the lighting circuit, no spare ways, or signs of heat damage. We will tell you honestly if yours can wait.
